More Grammar success at Nationals

Wednesday's evening session brought more success for Grammar cyclists.

Sam Webster won the final of the Under 19 sprint event, beating Myron Simpson from St Kents in the process.

Earlier on George Scott secured bronze in the 515m Scratch Race for Under 17s & later in the evening also took 3rd place in the points race..

News Flash from National Track Champs

9.55pm Tuesday 26th Feb; Aaron Gate our AGS cycling captain wins Under 19 Scratch Race Final at New Zealand cycling champs at Invercargill - in a new National record time.

Earlier in the day Sam Webster set a NZ record in the sprint qualifying round.

Bike for sale

Simon Stafford-Bush has outgrown his bike and it has been replaced and is now available for sale - and would be ideal for anyone looking to cycle for Grammar this coming year - if it's the right size for you.

It is a 52 frame Avanti Carbonio, with the school boy gears, keywin pedals etc.
His shoes (43's) are also for sale with the keywin cleats.


Whilst the bike is three years old, it has a brand new frame due to the previous one being cracked.

New these bikes are $3,000 new but this bike is for sale at $1,500.

2008 Cycling Captain & Deputy

Auckland Grammar School is most pleased to announce the Captain of Cycling for 2008, Aaron Gate, and the Vice Captain of Cycling for 2008, Thomas Williams.

"These guys are top quality students and superb bike racers,' according to D Johnson, Master in Charge of Cycling at AGS. 'They will add a lot to our programme, bring harmony to the teams, and bring younger riders into new territory within themselves as well.

Last year's Captain and Vice Captain, Dan Seagar and Matthew Gibson, plan to ride with Juniors this year, while Captain from 2006, Blair James, will continue to ride with Seniors as on-bike coach. His Vice Captain, Roman van Uden, will be riding professionally in USA this year and will be missed on the Senior outings."

2008 Schedule

30 July change: individual time trial, nutrition evening & fundraising dinner added in August / September
1 April change : added more information and added events in May.
21 Feb change: expanded plans for weekend of 8 / 9 March.
18 Feb change: Modifed Introductory Evening date - changed to Thursday 6th March, due to clash with 3rd Form interviews at AGS on the date originally intended.


Below are dates of interest to Auckland Grammar School cyclists. Some dates are tentative and subject to confirmation, but as dates are firmed up, this list will be modified throughout the year.
25 February - 1 March National Track Championships (Invercargill) for Auckland Track Team selections

6 March (Thursday) 7pm Introduction Evening / Recruiting Night (for parents and boys, for both new and returning cyclists) at the new Auckland Grammar Old Boys Sports Pavilion

8 March (Saturday) Introductory Bunch Ride for Junior Riders in Cornwall Park, some senior riders to assist with the group ride

9 March (Sunday) Introductory One Day Camp (for all Grammar Cyclists) similar in format to the Muriwai Camp two years ago. Assemble for bunch rides (3 different groups, dependent on ability) to ride out to Muriwai via differing length rides, for a day of cycling, teambuilding and fun.

13 - 16 March (Thursday - Sunday) Tour Of Northland for interested riders

29 - 30 March (Saturday - Sunday) Auckland Grammar Cycling Camp (Juniors and Seniors) at Awhitu, as last year

19 - 20 April (Saturday - Sunday) Rotorua Junior Tour for interested riders

26 - 28 April (Friday - Monday) TeAwamutu Junior Tour for interested riders

2 - 4 May (Friday - Sunday) Auckland Grammar Cycling Camp (Juniors and Seniors) - proposed dates, last weekend of the school holidays, on Coromandel Peninsula, details to be confirmed.

6 May (Tuesday) Weekly training sessions commence for Juniors and Seniors

10 May (Saturday) Individual Time Trial - at Mangere in the morning - to assist the selectors in determining teams for the initial Waterfront Team Time Trial race.

11 May (Sunday) Captains Run (Tamaki Drive) early in the morning - a dress rehearsal for Team Time Trials, to be followed by a group ride for all riders that are keen and then a social gathering for the boys and their families around mid-morning.

Introduction

Happy New Year to everyone – with the 2008 school year underway we’ve now commenced on planning for the forthcoming cycling season.

An email has been sent to those on our mailing list from last year, both parents and boys, apart from those in the 7th form last year. If by chance you do not require notices in connection with Grammar cycling for 2008 please let us know by return email ( rjustice@xtra.co.nz ) and I’ll delete you from the email list.

This year we will be utilizing this blog site for communicating to boys and parents about Grammar cycling – in the same manner as we did for the Tour De France trip last year, for those of you that visited http://www.tdftour.blogspot.com/.
