Coromandel Cycling Camp Information

GRAMMAR CYCLING CAMP

Below you will find more information about our 3 Day Camp set for the last weekend of the school holidays, as you have been advised of previously.

Please respond to rjustice@xtra.co.nz promptly with a " YES " to confirm you will be coming to the camp (also let us know if any parent help is available to drive a vehicle or ride with one of the pelotons), or a " NO " if for some reason you cannot come.

This is needed by return email so we can determine numbers for catering arrangements.

The key aspect is that we are encouraging ALL cyclists to participate in what should be a valuable team building exercise, as well as great training. There will be three distinct pelotons to cater for riders of all different levels of experience, from more senior riders (who will have the opportunity for longer and more challenging rides) through to the new novice riders (who will not be going as far and who will have easier terrain than the other groups).

In addition there will be some entertainment lined up, as outlined in the below information.

CYCLING MEETING

NB. Mr Johnson requires that ALL boys intending to cycle for Grammar this coming season need to meet with him at lunchtime in Room E5 either this Wednesday 16th April OR Thursday 17th April.

ie. You must come along on one or the other of these dates

If you are coming to the camp please bring along your signed consent form and payment for Mr Johnson, which appears here for you to print out.

Alternatively the forms (once signed) and your money can be given to Louise Foreman, either by mail or dropped off to 81 Grange Road, Mt Eden.

Tour Concept

Introduction:

Following on from the Awhitu camp this second camp will focus on more team riding within the Pelotons. It will also be over a 3 day period. i.e. the master/coach/parent cyclists in each peloton will ensure the boys stay as one group and there is a regular and orderly change of the lead cyclists.

Tour and Camp outline:

Friday

After initial meeting at AGS school (0700) the tour will be split into its three pelotons and transported by vehicles to three separate locations namely:

* Clevedon for Peloton 1
* Mangatawhiri for Peloton 2
* Waitakaruru for Peloton 3

Once at these locations the Pelotons will proceed along their designated routes with a lead and follow vehicle. Parent/coaches riders will also be amongst the pelotons.

Timings and distances have been calculated for all three Pelotons to arrive at Tairua for Lunch. The tour will continue after lunch as one Peloton to the first nights accommodation at Coroglen.

Friday evening entertainment will consist of a bonfire and marshmallow toasting next to the river that runs alongside the accommodation.

Saturday

The Pelotons will proceed from Coroglen at staggered starts. Peloton 2 & 3 will follow the same route and distance, however Peloton 1 will have a more challenging distance.

Lunch will be at Coromandel Township. This will be staggered with all pelotons arriving at Whakatete Bay (10km from Thames). for afternoon tea. The group will then proceed as one Peloton to our overnight destination via Thames township. Saturday night will be spent at the Kauaeranga Christian Camp.(5 km from Thames)

Entertainment that night will be a combination of Air rifle target practice, and BMX track riding.

Sunday

From the Kauaeranga Camp the Pelotons will be dispatched at staggered times across the Kopu Bridge and through to Miranda then Mangatangi and stop at State Highway 2. ( P1 will be dispatched to Paeroa and then the back roads through to Miranda) All Pelotons will be transported 3km along SH2 to Lyons Rd and then proceed as individual Pelotons to Clevedon Village for Lunch.

Parents of all the boys will be welcome to join the tour for lunch at Clevedon. After lunch boys can either leave with their parents or join the combined Peloton from Clevedon village back to AGS where they will all feel quite famous.
