Grammar Cycling Help

One or two parents have commented that they would like to do more to assist with cycling at Grammar, but weren’t certain as to how best to get involved or who to approach.

Existing structure
At present we have an organizing committee (contact details on the web site at http://agscycling.blogspot.com/2008/02/2008-contact-details.html ) that supports the work of the teaching staff and the coaches. We would welcome further assistance – and on occasion we do ask for specific help with different events. eg. The forth coming 3 day camp – a few more parents on the trip to drive support vehicles or to ride would be appreciated. Please let Ken Sparks know at sparksedit@yahoo.co.nz

Other volunteers needed
If you want to do more please just put your hand up. If you have particular skills, experience, or contacts that might be of use to us please let us know. Irrespective of your background, profession or experience, if you just want to help where you can, just drop me an email at rjustice@xtra.co.nz or to Dale Johnson at d.johnson@ags.school.nz – as we are compiling a list of responsibilities and parents that will be responsible for specific tasks, as well as a list that is a pool of “willing helpers” – no experience or specific skills required!

There are a few areas though where we do have specific needs:

Photography:
It would be helpful if there was an interested person who is likely to attend most of our cycling events who would take on the responsibility for compiling a photographic record of Grammar Cycling. If interested and you can produce some good images in digital format please let us know, contacting Richard Justice in the first instance at rjustice@xra.co.nz .

Massage:
One feature of race preparation that has been made available to Grammar cyclists for the past 8 years is massage to assist with circulation, activation and preparation. Each year with boys leaving school there is the need to introduce new people into our small massage team, a group of mothers which is led by Jo Hunt. She will be looking for some additional assistance and would welcome willing volunteers. Sponsorship
There is a significant cost to run cycling at Grammar – with this year’s budget totaling over $40,000. Some of this cost is met by the school, some by parents and we also carry out certain fund raising activities, as well as seeking funding from grant organization when we can.

In addition there are opportunities for interested commercial interests to support Grammar Cycling by way of sponsorship arrangements. If you might be interested, or know of an organization that might be, please let us know.
